Destination Guide: Estrela, Lisbon

Home to one of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks, the Basilica da Estrela, this neighbourhood is tucked out of the way of the city’s bustling centre but is still ideally located within a 15 minute walk of all the action. As the chosen setting for the Prime Minister’s residence, Estrela was first popular with the bourgeoisie which has shaped the neighbourhood’s architecture with small palaces and neo-classical mansions. An ideal location for families, Estrela has a good selection of schools and boasts a beautiful green park for children to play in. Prices still remain comparatively low to more central areas in Lisbon, however its increasing popularity with tourists is likely to bump the prices up in future.
